STD TESTING

STD testing and treatment is one of our signature services here at the Sidney Borum. All of our providers have attended special STD training, and have extensive experience diagnosing and treating STDs. All testing is confidential and if you are under 18 years old, you can be tested without us notifying your parents. Please call 617.457.8140 or speak to your medical or behavioral health provider to schedule an STD test. STD testing is available for free or at low cost, depending on your income and health insuranceWe can help you figure this out when you come in to the clinic. Talk to patient services during your visit or call them at 617.457.8140 if you have questions.

We can test for:

  • Gonorrhea and Chlamydia testing (urine testing available for men and women, as well as swabs)
  • Syphilis (requires a blood draw)
  • HIV (offered both as a regular blood test or as rapid testing using a drop of blood from a fingerstick – results are available in 60 minutes)
  • Hepatitis B and C (requires a blood draw)
  • Herpes (usually done by swabbing a suspicious sore, but a blood test is also available)
  • Trichomoniasis (requires looking at vaginal discharge under a microscope)

A visual examination is also recommended as part of your STD testing. During the examination your healthcare provider will look for: genital warts, molluscum, scabies, crabs, lice, and any abnormal discharge or skin changes.

If you are experiencing symptoms of an STD (such as abnormal discharge, pain with urination, itching, and irritation), or if you know you have been exposed to an STD call 617.457.8140 for an appointment today. We also have walk-in hours, no appointment necessary, on a first-come, first-served basis on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent future complications.
